Weekend Ideas: May 20th/21st

We may only be two weekends away from Apple Cart (psst and Field Day!) but what about the here and now? We’ve scoured across London’s listings to bring you a couple of family friendly ideas of goings on across the capital this weekend…
1. Words in the Park at Opera Holland House
An early Summer highlight for bookworms, Words in the Park is part of the Ways With Words institution and brings together the likes of PD James, Penelope Lively, AS Byatt, Tony Benn and Alain de Botton. Also listed is AA Gill in conversation with Jimmy Carr, which leaps out as a highlight to us.
The Horniman museum in Forest Hill is a bit of a hidden gem. The museum not possesses a listed-status natural history exhibition room, but also has a huge collection of musical instruments too - making it a great visit for musicians and music fans alike. Alongside that the spot also boasts one of London’s very best views on an elevated part of the newly renovated gardens (opening this weekend).
There’s no excuse for missing the terrific Museums at Night Festival this weekend. With so much going on after-hours you won’t struggle to find something for you - if anything probably too much catches the eye. Time Out London has a great index of exactly what is going on and where - our advice: stick to the smaller, off the beaten path museums for the real fun and discovery.
