The amazing Martin Creed is preparing for a busy summer to say the least. He’s bell-ringing for the Olympics and dropping his debut album through Moshi Moshi (he plays at Apple Cart, of course). You can’t miss Venn Street Market at Field Day and The Apple Cart this year! We are bang in the centre of both Festivals offering many gastronomic delights..
Amongst the traders are Anna Mae’s offering up American stylee macaroni cheese; if you are into French then try a raclette of sausage, potato, gherkins and raclette melted cheese from Une Normande; Taco Truck have promised their authentic Mexican tacos with hot chili sauce and back for more are Moen & Sons with their sizzling herby hog roast. Yam the Cassava are also regulars and are famously revered for their Creole cooking. This year they have a complete menu to choose from including fish and mushroom fritters at £1.50 each!
There are many international cuisines to be found at the Market including Portena’s Argentinian empanandas (crisp, flaky half moons of pastry puffed with savoury meat and veg fillings); Flavours of Portugal’s traditional dish of chicken piri piri; Rummanco who are London’s marvel of Caribbean cooking and Herman ze German who specialise in hot bratwurst sausages in a roll (hot dogs to you and me)..
For those of you with a sweet tooth welcome Churros Garcia (churros with chocolate) and Westonbirt and their Award winning home-made ice cream with a selection of interesting flavours including salted caramel, raisin Pedro Ximenez and rhubarb crumble..
